These resources are helping charities of all sizes build their fundraising expertise and develop the digital marketing skills needed to reach more supporters.

That’s more than ten thousand moments where charities across the UK (and beyond!) have turned to our platform for support and downloading toolkits, templates, and guides designed to help them grow, solve problems, and thrive in an ever-challenging landscape.

The idea? Simple in theory, delightfully tricky in practice: fit as many unique items as possible into a single matchbox. Over the course of two weeks, matchboxes were filled with everything from beads and buttons to tiny dice, a doll’s house fork, and even a miniature hand-crafted landscape — a creative showstopper!

“We’re constantly inspired by the creativity and resilience of the charities we work with,” said Fran Hall, Head of CharityWise. “I actually remember doing this matchbox challenge many years ago, and it’s always stayed with me as a reminder that small things can have real value.”

The challenge quickly brought out the competitive streak across the team, with playful rule queries and some very imaginative interpretations. Even better — some of our tiny Fresh Eggers (a.k.a. team members’ children) got involved, helping to fill boxes with big ideas in very small forms.

To help build momentum, we also created a themed donation box, proudly displayed in the Fresh Egg kitchen — complete with its own miniature makeover and printed stickers to cover each matchbox.

Throughout the challenge, Fran kept everyone motivated with daily “Tiny Facts” — bite-sized trivia — all serving as tiny inspiration for big creativity.

In the end, the winner of the challenge was Sarah Tunstall, CCO at Fresh Egg, with an impressive 100 items packed into a single matchbox. The award for most creative item went to Nicola Moody, Project Director, for her beautifully detailed miniature landscape.

Most importantly, the team raised £100 for Little Green Pig, a CharityWise member charity that believes every young person has a story worth telling — they work to nurture confidence, self-expression, and creativity through writing workshops, storytelling projects, and publishing opportunities. Whether it’s building self-esteem, improving literacy, or simply giving a child the chance to feel heard, their impact is quietly powerful — and deeply needed.

The Matchbox Challenge is a reminder that at CharityWise, we don’t just talk about supporting charities — we act on it. We’re proud to run a platform that helps amplify the work of small charities, while also getting creative with our own fundraising efforts. Because when it comes to impact, it’s not about the size of the box — it’s what you put into it.

The digital job board

We’re really excited to launch our dedicated Job Board for digital roles in charities.

You can now post digital roles for free for a limited time during the launch period. We’re doing this to support the whole sector in sharing, discovering, and shouting about digital opportunities.

A successful September

Throughout September, we ran a promotion offering micro charities (those with an annual income under £500k) free, unlimited access to CharityWise. We know that many smaller charities often lack the resources to work with digital agencies and develop the skills needed to grow their online presence. That’s where CharityWise comes in.

During the promotion, 300 organisations signed up to take advantage of the offer. These new members now have access to a wealth of digital resources that will help them thrive, from on-demand learning resources to live training sessions with digital experts.

The feedback from our new members has been overwhelmingly positive. Charities across the UK are making use of the platform’s varied resources—whether they’re just getting started or are looking to advance their digital strategies. By accessing CharityWise, they can learn new skills, improve their online engagement, and ultimately drive their missions forward.

Why digital skills matter for charities

As everything becomes increasingly digital, having the right skills and tools to succeed online is essential for all organisations. However, research shows that half of all charities don’t have a digital strategy in place, putting them at a disadvantage when it comes to reaching new supporters, raising funds, and growing their impact.
